This easy no-bake dessert is the perfect make-ahead treat. Chocolate Chip Rice Krispie treats are loved by everyone. Make these and bring them to school or the office as a pick-me-up.

Ingredients:
- Rice Krispie cereal: Using the standard Rice Krispie cereal will work best for this recipe. If you can’t find it, use any puffed rice cereal.
- Marshmallows: Using jet-puffed marshmallows will work well for this recipe. Use the jumbo size or the mini size.
- Butter: Adding a little bit of butter and melting it before adding the marshmallows will allow the marshmallows to melt easily.
- Chocolate Chips: Using mini chocolate chips will give your treats a pop of chocolate. You can also use other candy such as M&Ms or Smarties.
- Vanilla: Adding a bit of vanilla extract will balance the flavors of the sweetness of the Rice Krispie squares.
How to Make Chocolate Chip Rice Krispies
Make these Chocolate Chip Rice Krispies by first melting the butter in a large pot. I used my trusty dutch oven to combine all the ingredients.
Then add in the marshmallows and the vanilla and let the marshmallows melt. It should take about 10 minutes over medium heat for the marshmallows to completely dissolve into a liquid form.

Once the marshmallows are liquid, continue stirring to keep what’s touching the bottom of the pan from browning.

Add in your Rice Krispie cereal. It will get sticky fast, so work quickly! Keep the pot over low heat so that the marshmallows will continue to be pliable.

Quickly transfer the mix into the lined and greased baking sheet.
A trick from keeping the mixture sticking to your hands is to grease your hands with cooking spray or butter before pressing the mix into the tray.
Top the Rice Krispie Treats with chocolate chips and lightly press them in.

Add the tray to the fridge and allow it to cool for at least 2 hours before cutting.
How to Cut Chocolate Chip Rice Krispie Treats
The best and easiest way to cut your Rice Krispie treats is to pop them in the fridge for a couple of hours before cutting.
After they are finished chilling, take the entire baking sheet out of the fridge and remove the block of treats by lifting out the wax paper or parchment they are on.

Take a sharp knife and cut your Rice Krispie Treats into the desired size.
If you are still having some resistance cutting through, butter or grease your knife to avoid sticking.

Why are my Rice Krispie Treats falling apart?
If your Rice Krispie Treats are falling apart when you cut into them, there is probably a simple way to fix this.
Likely, they are too warm still and need to be left out or chilled for another couple hours.
If you’ve just pulled the tray from the fridge from overnight and they are still falling apart, you may not have used enough marshmallows in your mix, or you used too much butter.
How to Store Rice Krispie Treats
If you’ve made a large batch of this dessert, you’ll want a way to store it. You can place all the treats into an airtight container and store in the fridge but it’s likely they will stick together.
It’s best to wrap these individually with wax paper or plastic wrap. This also make it easier to only have one instead of opening a whole container filled with treats!
Reheating Rice Krispie Treats
It’s easy to recreate the ooey gooey freshly made Rice Krispie Treat experience, even two weeks after they’ve been stored in the pantry.
Just unwrap your treat and place it on a microwave safe plate. Put the plate in the microwave and heat for about 30 seconds.
Your Rice Krispie Treat will be hot! Let it cool for a minute before taking a bite.
