Ingredients for Cajun Hummus

  • Tahini paste: This sesame product will add flavor and “umph” to your hummus.
  • Canned Garbanzo beans, drained: Give the garbanzo beans a good rinse after draining the liquid.
  • Garlic, roasted: Purchase roasted garlic or roast yourself by cutting whole garlic in half, seasoning with olive oil and salt, and then wrapping in foil. Bake at 350° for half an hour.
  • Olive oil: Using pure olive oil will give the hummus a rich taste.
  • Cajun seasoning: Use store bought cajun seasoning, such as Slap Ya Mama, or make your own!
  • Salt and pepper: Add as much, or as little, salt and pepper to your hummus.
  • Paprika: Adding color with Paprika is a great way to make your dish look more appetizing.
  • Lemon: Adding fresh lemon will brighten your hummus.

The first step when making your Cajun hummus is to add the canned garbanzo beans, drained, with the lemon juice, tahini paste, cajun seasoning and roasted garlic to a food processor. Stream in olive oil as the food processor is running.

Taste the mixture once it is smooth, and add in more olive oil and salt to taste.

If the hummus isn’t smooth, add in more olive oil or cold water, 1 teaspoon at a time until completely smooth.

Taste and add salt and pepper, or more cajun seasoning to taste.

Scoop the hummus out of the processor and into a serving bowl. Top with paprika, salt and more olive oil.

Serve with pita chips, carrots and celery.
